Product and Service schema describe what you sell in a structured format. Eligible product pages can support search features for pricing, availability, and ratings. Service markup can clarify the provider and offering, but Google does not promise a general Service rich result or AI recommendation.
Why it matters
Precise visible service pages help customers and search systems understand the offer. Matching structured data can reinforce those facts and support applicable features. It does not substitute for useful content, indexing, reputation, or demand.
How to add it
- Decide which types you need. Use Product schema if you sell physical products, and Service schema for the services you offer. Many local businesses need Service schema more than Product.
- Add Service schema to service pages. Include the service name, a description, and the provider (your business). Add one per service page, and optionally summarize on the homepage.
- Add Product schema to product pages. Put it on each individual product page, not just category pages, with name, image, and an offers block.
- Add Offer schema for pricing. Include price and availability where you show them, and make sure the schema price exactly matches the page.
- Use specific types and validate. Pick the most specific @type for your industry, then run a schema validator and clear all errors.
Keep it matched and current
As with all schema, the numbers in your markup must match what is on the page. Mismatched prices or ratings break trust and can cause errors in Search Console. Set a reminder to update schema whenever your prices or offerings change, so your structured data never drifts from reality.
Frequently asked
What business owners ask next.
Do I need Product schema or Service schema?
Use Product schema if you sell physical goods on individual product pages, and Service schema for the services you provide. Many local and professional businesses primarily need Service schema, with Product reserved for actual products.
Does product schema price need to match the page?
Yes, exactly. The price and availability in your schema must match what the visitor sees on the page. Mismatches violate guidelines and cause errors, so update the schema whenever your pricing changes.
