FAQ schema describes visible question-and-answer content in a machine-readable format. Google limits FAQ rich results mainly to authoritative government and health sites, so most businesses should not expect an expanded search result from this markup.
Why publish questions and answers
Real questions can still make a page more useful by addressing price, process, fit, risk, and limitations in the language customers use. That visible content is the value. The schema should mirror it accurately, but there is no official basis for treating FAQ markup as a special AI citation or ranking signal.
How to add it
- Write real FAQ content. Use the actual questions customers ask, in their words, with clear, genuinely useful answers on the page.
- Create the FAQPage schema. Build a JSON-LD block listing each question and its answer, matching the visible content exactly.
- Add it to the page. Place the schema on the page that contains the FAQ content. Do not mark up questions that are not visible to users.
- Validate. Run it through a schema validator and fix any errors before publishing.
Keep it honest
Only mark up questions and answers that genuinely appear on the page for users. Hidden or fabricated Q&A violates guidelines. Spend the effort on useful, specific answers first; add schema only when it truthfully describes the page.
