What I keep seeing
A ride or a good intention can become another loss of control. The person may want a witness, a quiet presence, a translator, or no one in the room. Privacy and safety change the plan.
What should exist
I would make a short support plan: the goal, one support role, accessibility needs, allowed contacts, an exit signal, and a check-in time. In domestic-violence situations, the Family Justice Center lists safety planning, family-offense petition support, crisis intervention, and court advocacy and accompaniment. The Eighth Judicial District page gives court information.
What a Buffalo person can do today
Ask what role is wanted before you offer a ride or join a meeting. Agree on what may be shared and where to meet. Call the Family Justice Center or check the court page before arriving. Store notes only where the person says they are safe. 211 WNY can help with non-urgent local resources. This is not legal, medical, or emergency advice.
